As insurance payments continued to decrease, and doctor bills continued to increase, it is only natural for people to be cautious about making a trip to see their doctor. This is especially true when it comes to dealing with back pain.

Many people feel that the pain will get better and they hold off on going to the doctor if it all possible. With normal back pain this is usually okay.

Many times back pain will go away on its own or you can treat it yourself. However there are other times when it's probably a good idea to go in and be seen.

For example if you're having trouble sleeping and the pain is only getting worse it's time to go in and talk to your doctor. It could be something more than just back pain and you want to find out what that is.

Older people should go in and be seen as soon as possible to. If you're over 50 years old or have a history of health problems you want to talk to your doctor to make sure that you're not dealing with something else besides pain in your back.

If your back pain is due to falling or some type of an accident you need to determine if something more has happened. If the pain has increased or feels different it may not be just in your back.

An example of this is if you have pain in your leg. Sciatica may be your problem which could be related to pressure on nerves or possibly even your spine.

A rule of thumb is if you have been dealing with the same problem for three to four weeks it is probably a good idea to go in and visit with your doctor.
